Political Theory, International Relations and Human Rights

The PhD in Political Theory, International Relations and Human Rights, created in partnership by the Universities of Évora and the Azores, is distinguished by the centrality it gives to questions of citizenship and human rights, contextualized in the international system, driven by heterogeneous trends and forces that are sometimes contradictory. With the support of a faculty with high scientific and disciplinary competence and anchored in the solid research experience inserted in Research Centers of Excellence, this doctorate aims to develop a deep theoretical knowledge, which in a versatile and transdisciplinary way, boosts the development of critical analyzes , which represent an innovative and consistent contribution to research at national and international level.

The following individuals can apply for a cycle of studies to the "Doutor" degree (Ph.D. degree):

- holders of a Portuguese Mestre degree (Master degree) or legal equivalent;

- holders of an undergraduate degree holding a specially relevant academic or scientific curriculum, which is recognized as attesting capacity to carry out this cycle by the competent scientific committee of the higher education institution where they wish to be admitted;

- holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized as attesting the ability to carry out this cycle of studies by the competent scientific committee of the higher education institution where they wish to be admitted.

This Doctoral Program allows you to embark on the areas of teaching, scientific research, specialized consultancy in European and international organizations and institutions, senior State officials, think tanks, or with organizations specialized in public policies, also allowing you to follow the area of diplomacy or work in NGOs.

Students are expected to develop skills in a culturalist sense, densifying the methodological and theoretical knowledge of two sub-areas, where there is a very wide range of diplomas and international conventions that require specialists to meet the needs of their correct interpretation and application.

Full or part-time attendance. Attendance required in daytime schedule.
