Objectives
The first study cycle in History of the University of Azores aims to promote the protection, research and valorization of the cultural and patrimonial goods, promoting a basic training on the different domains of the European, national, regional and Atlantic History. This education plan is complemented by alternative courses in: Cultural Patrimony, European Studies and International politics, Philosophy, Sociology, Information and documentary Sciences and Geography.
In the domain of the skills this cycle aims to qualify the students to pursuit the studies of Master and PhD and to the scientific research, teaching in History and Geography on the primary and secondary cycles, public and private administration, European institutions and development agencies, technicians on preservation and management of the Cultural Heritage, Museology, Archivist, and documentation as well as private initiatives.
Access Requirements
TThose interested can apply for the course through one of the following national competitions organized by DGES: National Competition for Access and Admission to Public Higher Education; and Special Regimes. Application may also be possible through the following special competitions, organized by the University of the Azores: Special Competitions for Access and Admission to the University of the Azores (Over 23 Years, Holders of Technological Specialization Diploma, Holders of Higher Professional Technician Diploma, Holders of Other Higher Education Courses, Holders of dual certification courses in secondary education and specialized artistic courses); Regimes of Re-entry and Change of Institution / Course; Special competition for access and admission of international students to the University of the Azores. In all cases, the application is dependent on the candidates' compliance with the conditions required for this purpose. Career Opportunities
Preservation, management and enjoyment of historical heritage;
Dynamization, programming and cultural management;
Scientific research in projects related to the Azores, Portugal, Europe, the Atlantic and Portuguese speaking countries;
Access to the Masters in History Teaching in the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and in Secondary Education, with a view to teaching.
Learning Outcomes
a) To know the main cultural realities of social, political, economic, structural and economic History of Europe, of Portugal, of Azores and of the Atlantic in the last centuries.
b) To identify the marks of identity arising from historical experiences.
c) To develop a curiosity well oriented and a good critical spirit.
d) To know how and where to get information to study any subject in the History context.
e) Be able to develop its own research from archival documents, artistic productions, archaeological remains, tools of everyday work, and modes of organization of space, texts in time context, traditions and practices.
f) To elaborate personal summaries from non-unanimous texts.
g) To learn, plan and execute a scientific research in History.
h) To demonstrate, by the quality of achievements, full mastery of the rules of final presentation of results in History research.
i) To learn to think and communicate orally and in writing
