Summer Courses

The University of the Azores offers you 2 to 4 week Summer Courses in the Campus of Ponta Delgada (São Miguel Island) during June/July.

It is an excellent opportunity both to improve your Portuguese language skills (the 5th most spoken language in the world) and learn more about the beautiful islands of the Azores – its history, culture and natural features. As well as do some guided tours on the island of S. Miguel.

Before or after the course you may make the most of your time in the Archipelago and visit other islands either by ferry or plain. Learn more about it here.

Portuguese Foreign Language – beginner (A1)

June 12 to July 1

Portuguese Foreign Language – intermediate (B1)

June 12 to July 1

Azorean Literature, History and Culture* (limited spots available)

Geological Hazards (limited spots available)

June 3 to 18

Natural History of the Azores Islands* (limited spots available)

June 12 to July 3

*Can be combined with a Portuguese Foreign Language course.

Course duration: 42 hours (combines classes, field work and guided tours to the Island of S. Miguel).

Each course offers you 6 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System).

Tuition & Fees

Cost per course is 300€ (tuition) + 15€ (fee)

Tuition does not include food, accommodation or travel expenses between the islands.

Payment can be done through wire transfer, debit card or directly at the University of the Azores up to May 20.


Application period is from January 30 to May 18.
